A lack of due diligence cost an accountant £25k

A sole practitioner has been excluded from the ICAEW and ordered to pay fines and costs totalling over £25,000, after he took over 13 years to carry out customer due diligence checks.


Over a number of years, an accountant was found to be lacking in a number of areas regarding anti-money laundering for several clients. During his ICAEW hearing, he was found at fault for a multiple of failings that resulted in a fine of over £12,000, plus costs of just over £13,000.
