HMRC loses £47m as 100,000 accounts hit phishing fraud

Organised criminals created fake PAYE accounts using stolen credentials, costing the taxpayer £47m.


HMRC has written to the affected parties to inform them of this breach. The letter explains how the person can access their HMRC account and how to contact HMRC on a dedicated helpline and email address if the person has any concerns.
