Employment tribunal calling…

Named and shamed… Employers who do not pay employment tribunal awards within a reasonable time should be named publicly.

A naming scheme has begun and will apply to awards registered with the Department for Business. The scheme is structured similarly to the existing National Minimum Wage underpayment scheme and will name employers, along with the unpaid employment tribunal award in a press release on Gov.co.uk!

The naming scheme provides an even greater incentive for employers alongside the current financial penalties in place to get things right and ‘pay up’ quickly.

The (slightly) good news… only employment tribunal awards of £200 or more are in scope to be considered for naming.

Prevention is better than cure… it’s always better where possible to resolve these matters before it gets to a tribunal.
