The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Updated: Jan 18, 2018

The General Data protection regulation (GDPR) will be implemented in the UK in May 2018 and replaces the Data protection act 1998 .

The regulation will apply to any company processing the personal data of individuals in the EU. The changes to data protection could see organisations being fined as much as €20 million or 4% of global turnover for a breach in data.

The new rules will have a significant impact on organisations especially the payroll department. To meet with the new obligations companies will need to review all of the HR and Payroll processes and make any necessary changes.

Minimising the data held, ensuring employee consent under the new laws, implementing new processes such as data impact assessments, documenting compliance, and ensuring you can recognise and report payroll and HR data breaches in 72 hours are just some of the things you will need to do.
